At Kings Avenue, Design Technology forms part of our Thematic curriculum. This approach means that the end products produced by children are, wherever possible, linked to their overall context of their learning. However, we are also meticulous to ensure that the children learn the design, practical, reflective and technical skills required to create a range of different products to a high standard.
Each year group studies one Design Technology unit of work per term, alternating with Art and Design. These units cover the full breadth required by the programmes of study from the National Curriculum, from mechanics to textiles to food technology. Throughout these units, our children also have the opportunity to apply skills learnt in other subjects, particularly from Mathematics, Science and Computing.
For information about what we teach in each of our year groups, use the Curriculum Maps below for Key Stage 1 and 2. Further information about our curriculum for Design Technology can be found by viewing our Thematic curriculum plans for each year group, where details about the learning journey for each unit are given.
