Since the launch of the new curriculum in September 2014, children in years 1-6 at Kings Avenue have been following the National Curriculum programmes of study for mathematics.
At our school, we are using the Collins Busy Ants scheme of work for Mathematics. This scheme maps out the content of the programmes of study into 12 units of work across the year, each typically lasting for three weeks.
Using this scheme gives us continuity of approach to Mathematics across the school, and also ensures there is clear progression both from unit-to-unit, and between year groups. We have also been using different ways to emphasis Mental maths, including quick-fire games and times table challenges which the children are really responding to.
