At Kings Avenue Primary School, we believe that Computing and the use of ICT is central to the education of all children. We use it to support teaching and learning in English, Science and Design and Technology, Topic and Mathematics where children develop skills such as presenting and researching information. In line with the national curriculum, we acknowledge that a high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.
We aim to give each pupil the opportunity to apply and develop their technological understanding and skills across a wide range of situations and tasks.Pupils are involved in blogging, film-making, coding, debugging and many other technology related activities. Initially pupils are taught that an Algorithm is a set of instructions. This is learnt through a variety of ways including programming bee bots and then progressing onto more complex algorithms.
Effective and innovative use of technology leads to improved outcomes for writing, motivated and engaged pupils, broader access to digital resources and increased opportunities for creativity and pupils are encouraged to develop a confident and safe approach to Computing and the use of ICT.
We ensure that our pupils leave school equipped with the skills and motivation to become effective, productive, creative and safe users of technology. With the knowledge that Computing and ICT will undoubtedly continue to form a major part in student’s life at home, in further education and places of work, we ensure that these experiences and abilities that the children are equipped with at King’s Avenue Primary School, are effective and transferrable life skills.
