Children in years 1-6 at Kings Avenue have been following the National Curriculum programmes of study for mathematics.
At our school, we are using the White Rose scheme of work for Mathematics. This approach to maths uses small step learning which allows children the time to deepen their knowledge and build upon it slowly which is seen to accelerate their learning.
Using White Rose Maths allows gives to have continuity of approach to Mathematics across the school, and also ensures there is clear progression both from unit-to-unit, and between year groups.
Please check our Maths Calculation Policy
Times tables at Kings Avenue
We are also having a whole school emphasis on timetable knowledge. Each year group has a timetable that they practice daily and then get tested on weekly. Chanting and practising at home will really help your child remember these so please ask your child's teacher if you are unsure which one they are learning at the moment. Below is a table showing which times tables your children will be learning throughout the year. Please help practice these at home every night.
In the Spring term we hosted a Times tables workshop for the parents to help you with some ideas on how you could help your child at home with their tables. If you were unable to make this but would like a copy of the handouts, please come and speak to Miss Church (year 6) for a chat.
